Report: Maryland foreclosures fall in May - Baltimore Business Journal:

Compared with April, foreclosures fell 25 percent in D.C. to 299; 14 percent in Virgini to 5,385; and 2 percentt in Maryland to 3,539. foreclosures declined 6 percentto 321,480 ,according to the latest surve y by Irvine, Calif.-based , a foreclosure researcn firm. Virginia continued to have the highesf rate of default among thethree jurisdictions, with one in 608 homex receiving a foreclosure notice. Marylane was next with a defaultg rate of one in every655 homes. The District’z default rate is the lowest, at one in every 951 The District also had the best foreclosure performanc compared with May with defaults declining 24 percent from the yearago period.
Virginiwa foreclosures were 2 percent higher than Mayof 2008. Marylanr foreclosures were 51 percent higher than ayear ago. RealtyTrac reported that foreclosurex in May were 18 percent higher than oneyear ago. One in evert 398 U.S. homes received a foreclosure filingtin May, easing back from April’x national rate of one in every 374 the highest monthly foreclosure rate since RealtyTrac began issuing data in Januart 2005.
