The compan boasts it had 20 percent ofthe world’s wind turbine markety in 2008, with more than 38,000 Vestas-made wind turbines installed worldwide.
The group Monday was touring the company’d $100 million manufacturing plantin Windsor, where the big bladeas that capture the wind are made. Board membersa also were also spending time in where Vestas is planning a seconsd blade plant and a nacellesassemblgy plant, and in where Vestas is building the world’z biggest plant for making the steel towers that hold the wind turbines aloft. “We’re spending more than $1 billion in the United Statesw and making a good commitment tothe market, so they wantedd to see it first hand,” Roberts said.
The Windsor plant north of Denver, which when running at full capacitg is expected to employ about 600 employeed and produce as manyas 2,00o0 wind blades per year. The planrt opened in March 2008. • The Brightob blade factory and nacelle assembly plants valued at acombined $290 which was announced in August 2008. The plantes are expected to be fully operationaklin 2010. The blade factory will emplouy about 650 people and the nacelle plangt will have about700 employees, Vestas has said. • The $250 millionh Pueblo wind tower plant, expected to open later this year. It will make 900 steel towers annuallyg and employ 450 to550 workers.
The group plannedc to leave Colorado Monday evening for where the Vestas Americaw divisionis based, to see the company’s marketing, sales and serviced operations, then tour a wind farm in Washingtohn state, Roberts said.
